As we approach the end of 2022, many LGBTQ+ individuals, including myself, are looking forward to what the next year will bring. Here are ten things that LGBTQ+ people are hoping to see in 2023:

  1. Continued progress towards equality: LGBTQ+ people are hopeful that 2023 will bring further progress in the fight for equal rights. This includes not only marriage equality, but also equal access to employment, housing, and healthcare, as well as protections against discrimination.

  2. Greater representation in media and pop culture: LGBTQ+ people are excited to see more accurate and diverse representations of themselves in media and pop culture. This includes more LGBTQ+ characters on TV shows and in movies, as well as more LGBTQ+ musicians, actors, and other celebrities.

  3. More inclusive workplaces: Many LGBTQ+ people are looking forward to seeing more inclusive workplaces in 2023, with policies and practices that support and protect LGBTQ+ employees. This includes things like non-discrimination policies, diversity and inclusion training, and the availability of resources like employee resource groups.

  4. Increased visibility and acceptance in sports: LGBTQ+ athletes and sports fans are hoping to see more acceptance and inclusivity in the world of sports in 2023. This includes more LGBTQ+ athletes coming out and being open about their identities, as well as more allies speaking out in support of LGBTQ+ rights.

  5. Greater support for LGBTQ+ youth: LGBTQ+ youth often face unique challenges, and many LGBTQ+ people are hoping to see increased support and resources for these young people in 2023. This includes things like inclusive and affirming school policies, access to counseling and mental health services, and the availability of LGBTQ+ youth groups and other supportive communities.

  6. More acceptance in faith communities: For many LGBTQ+ people, finding acceptance and belonging in their faith communities can be a challenge. In 2023, LGBTQ+ people are hoping to see more acceptance and inclusivity in religious institutions, as well as more openly LGBTQ+ religious leaders.

  7. Increased access to healthcare: Many LGBTQ+ people face barriers to healthcare, including discrimination and lack of knowledge about the specific healthcare needs of LGBTQ+ individuals. In 2023, LGBTQ+ people are hoping to see increased access to healthcare that is both inclusive and knowledgeable about the needs of LGBTQ+ patients.

  8. More representation in politics: LGBTQ+ people are hoping to see more representation in politics in 2023, with more openly LGBTQ+ politicians at all levels of government. This includes more LGBTQ+ people running for office, as well as more LGBTQ+ people being appointed to positions of leadership.

  9. More acceptance in the military: In 2023, LGBTQ+ people are hoping to see continued progress towards acceptance in the military, with more LGBTQ+ service members able to openly serve and with full equality. This includes not only the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," but also the end of the transgender military ban.

  10. Greater acceptance and visibility in society: Ultimately, LGBTQ+ people are looking forward to seeing greater acceptance and visibility in society as a whole in 2023. This includes not only legal protections and rights, but also a shift in societal attitudes towards LGBTQ+ people, with more acceptance and understanding of the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community.
