The LGBTQ+ Diversity in Experience Scholarship

For College of Business Undergraduate Students

@ The University of Akron

DESCRIPTION

The Diversity in Experience Scholarship for College of Business Undergraduate Students was established in January 2022 by Richard D Angeletti III. Richard (Rick or Ricky) Angeletti ’16, graduated as the student responder with a bachelor’s degrees in accounting and economics. During his time at university, he valued having a diverse college experience being heavily involved in student life outside of his degree granting program and the Akron community. Richard believes having diverse experiences to compliment one’s academic program are key to student success. While Richard is now a proud and “out” member of the LGBTQ+ community this couldn’t be said during his time at the University of Akron. In establishing this scholarship Richard hopes to assist current business students on their path to personal and professional success while being their authentic self.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION

Why This? Why Now?

In establishing the LGBTQ+ Diversity in Experience Scholarship at the University of Akron College of Business. This is a first of its kind scholarship dedicated to provide financial support to an undergraduate business student within the LGBTQ+ community.

This hits a lot of emotion for me because it provides a visible symbol of support in a place and a time in my life where I didn’t have the right vocabulary or experiences to provide the psychological safety to be my authentic self.
This is a step I can take along with the many steps The University of Akron is taking to continue  to advance inclusive and affirming space on campus.

It’s even more poetic for me that this all happened on the anniversary of Ricky Angeletti Day in Summit County. Hope you all will celebrate with me by simply texting an old friend from school and telling them you care.
I’m incredibly privileged to be able to do something like this and it makes my heart really happy to do it. Below are some fun pics from signing day.
